La Ciudad del Silencio

The short documentary “La Ciudad del Silencio” (City of Silence) takes place one year after hurricane María makes direct landfall in Puerto Rico. It investigates aftermath and grief from the perspective of Emilio, a Korean-War veteran and retired Pentecostal pastor who lost his wife days after the storm. As the island struggles with national emergency, an isolated Emilio finds solace in silence by fixing his house and maintaining a daily routine. The film circles around what is not present anymore. It mirrors the personal with the national and meditates on reconstruction, colonialism, and death.
